  • Negotiations update and other items
    Posted On: Aug 17, 2023

    Good Morning All,

Negotiations are continuing with the state. We had a meeting yesterday where we presented our counter offers to the states' August 3rd offers. We have made informal temporary agreements with the state on several key items related to compensation items and wording changes. We are still working on improving the salary adjustment piece. We have proposed two scenarios to the state; one is COLA based and the other the traditional percentage-based increase. The team feels that we are making progress although it may be slow.

We did get the opportunity to have small table discussions with Warden Service, Marine Patrol and Forest Service and we believe we are very close to having MOA's that we can present to the members. Additionally, we have nearly finalized a MOA for the AG's Office and Capital Police with only a couple of items left to work out.

The next meeting is scheduled for August 28. It is our hope that the state will strongly consider our compensation proposals and we can finalize all if not most of the MOA's.

In other business, the board voted not to renew the office rent on Green Street in Augusta. Over the past two years, the office has been used very little, with the majority of meetings with the state occurring via Teams or Zoom. The savings to MSLEA is around $10,000 annually. This is money we can use to represent members' interests in contract disputes and other labor matters.

The new MSLEA mailing address is as follows:

There is some furniture that we are looking to sell if anyone is interested in nice office chairs that would be great for college dorm rooms, a large conference room table, leather love seats and couch and other chairs. Contact me at 557-0435 if you are interested or have more questions.

I am attaching the Maine Civil Service Bulletin as it relates to leave time. It is important to read through this especially if you are planning to retire soon.

Thanks for all that you do!

    Kevin Anderson

    Executive Director, MSLEA
